The George Grantham Bain Collection represents the photographic files of one of America’s earliest news picture agencies. The collection richly documents sports events, theater, celebrities, crime, strikes, disasters, political activities including the woman suffrage campaign, conventions and public celebrations. The photographs Bain produced and gathered for distribution through his news service were worldwide in their coverage, but there was a special emphasis on life in New York City. The bulk of the collection dates from the 1900s to the mid-1920s, but scattered images can be found as early as the 1860s and as late as the 1930s. 1939 Worlds Fair Polish Pavilion Art Deco Vintage Travel Poster
PRINTED BY: 1938 Copyright, Republic of Poland Exhibition, New York World’s Fair 1939.
CONDITION: B, clean, Linen Mounted. has a 8 inch edge tear with no paper loss through V in “Pavilion”, restored by New York`s finest restorers. Unobtrusive, absolutely displays beautifully, see photos!
NOTE: This stunning and very rare 1938 poster for the 1939 NY World’s Fair was printed with silver inks on the building, flag poles, and stars. Hitler invaded Poland before the fair opened, and Poland sadly withdrew from the Fair.
A rare and uncommon example of a wonderful art deco, moderne, and machine age graphic era of American design. This poster was found in the early 1990′s with 3 others in Buffalo, NY, which has a high Polish population, presumably from someone who worked at the fair. The others were sold, and this was in our personal collection until now. We expect to never have another and only have this one.

Winner of the 2009 Robert Park Book Award for best Community and Urban Sociology book!
Branding New York traces the rise of New York City as a brand and the resultant transformation of urban politics and public life. Greenberg addresses the role of “image” in urban history, showing who produces brands and how, and demonstrates the enormous consequences of branding. She shows that the branding of New York was not simply a marketing tool; rather it was a political strategy meant to legitimatize market-based solutions over social objectives.
